Day 2 - Arrive Mo'orea, Society Islands Sunday morning.

We arrived in Mo'orea around 8am and fortunately I was excited enough to be up watching as we got first sight of this beautiful land. It was once called Tahiti-lti (the little fish of Tahiti). The drive around the island is only 37 miles but all of it, breathtaking.

We took an off-road safari in a 4WD and stopped at the top of the mountain with a view overlooking two bays. Here's our ship - most of the time we anchored at sea and took the tenders into the harbors -the water being too shallow for the ship. It was even fun just taking the tenders!

This is an inland valley where the land is very fertile and it is farmed in every available spot.

This is such a fantastic photo - it epitomizes the South Pacific - the palm, water, green hillsides, rugged mountains, spectacular view.

Mtn. Mouaroa (better known as Mitchener's Bali Hai) can be seen from everywhere. The driver stopped here where we were surrounded by grapefruit trees and floral plants. He sliced various fresh fruit then offered us his own 'vanilla rum' poured onto the pineapple slices .. words can't describe the taste.

In the distance you can see our ship - the views from this spot were fantastic whichever way we were facing.

Here I am in yet another beautiful scene shot. I had only posted three or four photos of Moorea but when I went back and looked at them all, I decided I needed to post more so you'd get a good idea of just how extremely beautiful these islands are.

On this photos you can see the atoll which surrounds and protects the island - note the color of the water - my goodness it was beautiful.

Here's one of the little towns on Moorea - what a place to live eh?

Day 1 - Leave Papeete, Tahiti on the MS Paul Gauguin

We flew from SFO to LAX, then, after an overnight stay at an airport hotel, we flew from there to Papeete where we were shuttled to the MS Paul Gauguin which departed around midnight.
